Yes - there are 3 &quot;alphabets&quot; for lack of a better term.  Hiragana and Kanji are used for native Japanese words, Katakana is generally used for foreign words. The memorization is the hardest part! I just got Rosetta Stone as a gift so I&#039;m using that too. They do mix them together and all of the sounds (so far, I&#039;m only halfway through the first quarter) are the same - you just use them for different things. :) Let me know if you continue!</description>

		<description>So exciting!!!  It does sound like a happy language.  I tried to learn a little on my own last year with some audio tapes from the library.  That was easy enough but then I looked into how to learn to read Japanese.  Oh boy.  I guess they also use two other written components called katakana and kanji (or at least this is what I have been lead to believe).  I have never been able to figure out how all 3 work together or if they do or what.  So as soon as you figure that out and have found some good resources to learn it let me know!!</description>
